SouthData employees gave more than $4,000 to the 2009 United Fund of Surry campaign. 

Forty-three percent of employees gave $4,690, which the company matched dollar for dollar, for a grand total of $12,380.

“This is a 42 percent increase over last year,” said Elizabeth B. Spires, Human Resources Director. "This is just incredible. It's just a reflection of the generosity that John Springthorpe, III shows in the community."

Springthorpe is SouthData's president. "The employees drive the campaign. This is amazing. Thank you to all the employees who made a contribution," he said.

A 100 percent of the money will be used to support the 29 local United Fund agencies that address emergencies and crisis situations; specialize in helping families, youth, seniors and special needs individuals; provide medical help; and offer food bank services.

A few of those agencies are: local rescue squads, senior centers, boy and girl scouts, Surry Scan, Yokefellow Ministry, The Salvation Army, Shepherd’s House, American Red Cross, Surry Domestic Violence, Surry Medical Ministries, Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, and Surry Friends of Youth.
