SouthData Investing in New Machinery and New Jobs over Next Two Years

Jul 05 2016

SouthData, Inc. has announced that they will invest at least $2,650,000 in machinery and equipment in 2015, and add 14 jobs over the next two years at its Mount Airy, North Carolina facility.  SouthData is an existing industry that has been in Mount Airy for 28 years and currently employs 79 people locally, and 28 more throughout the United States.  In 2014, SouthData became a wholly-owned subsidiary of OSG Billing Services, Inc.  The company could have expanded in either Mount Airy, North Carolina, or Tempe, Arizona, where they own a facility that has the potential for additional capacity.

The City of Mt. Airy has offered an incentive package that totals $49,200.  The incentive package was made up of a cash grant of $38,000 for capital investment and $11,200 for job creation.  Surry County matched the City’s $38,000 cash grant.  The total incentive package to encourage SouthData and its parent company to expand in Mount Airy is $87,200.  In addition, Surry Community College’s Customized Industry Training program will be working with SouthData on training assistance for its current and future employees.

John Springthorpe, III, President and COO stated, “OSG Billing Services and our SouthData division are excited about the opportunity made possible by Surry County and the City of Mount Airy. It is a pleasure to make this investment and add these jobs when you know you are working in partnership with local government and their economic development agencies. We have plants in five cities around the country. Mount Airy easily distinguished itself as the right place for this growth.”

Mayor Deborah Cochran expressed, “This is outstanding news to see SouthData expand its business with a targeted investment of $2.65 million dollars and the creation of 14 full-time jobs.  SouthData will stimulate and diversify the local economy, promote business and provide employment opportunities.”

Chairman of the Surry County Commissioners, Buck Golding noted, “We support these incentives that help our people by maintaining and growing Surry County’s workforce.”

Dr. George Sappenfield, Vice President Corporate and Continuing Education said, “Surry Community College’s Customized Industry Training program looks forward to providing an individualized training plan that will assist SouthData with their expansion”.

“Helping our existing industries and businesses become more competitive and grow is a key role that the Surry County Economic Development Partnership plays in our economy,” stated Todd Tucker, President of the SCEDP.  “LeeAnn Nixon worked very close with the city, county, community college and the company to help make this happen. We are proud that SouthData is growing here.”
